Asheville, N.C. — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement for Josh Stein’s candidacy for North Carolina’s Governor.

This endorsement is based on his track record and leadership in addressing climate change and promoting clean energy. Examples of his leadership in these areas include:

  • Intervening in proceedings at the North Carolina Utilities Commission to ensure Duke Energy’s electricity generation plans eliminate climate pollution and hasten coal plant retirement while prioritizing renewable energy, lessening dependence on risky fossil gas, and lowering costs for customers;
  • Suing the federal government multiple times to block offshore drilling and related exploration activities off North Carolina’s coast;
  • Defending landmark regulations to reduce power plant climate pollution from rollbacks;
  • Pledging to get North Carolina on the path to carbon neutrality by 2050 as Governor.

“Josh Stein is the real deal when it comes to political leadership in protecting the environment and transitioning to cleaner safer energy choices. Stein has a long list of actions to prove it in stark contrast to his opponent. He has used his time in elected office to help North Carolinians achieve a healthier environment and more affordable energy bills.  I’m confident he will continue this leadership as the next Governor of North Carolina,” stated Dr. Stephen Smith, executive director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund.

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund wishes Josh Stein well in his campaign and thanks him for his consistent leadership in advancing clean energy and climate progress for the people of North Carolina.

Knoxville, T.N. — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement for Bryan Goldberg for Tennessee State House of Representatives district 18 in Knoxville.

This endorsement is based on his understanding of the need to address the climate crisis and his support for state government promoting clean energy. In particular:

  • His belief that the state government should take an active role in incentivizing clean energy and working with private businesses to grow clean energy development.
  • His support for local governments, such as Knoxville, setting renewable energy goals independently of the State Legislature.

“Bryan Goldberg’s personal and professional life gives him a clear eyed approach supporting clean energy and addressing the climate crisis.  Meanwhile his opponent has a track record of voting for extreme laws that prop up dirty, polluting industries, limiting Knoxville voters’ choices, and stifling our community’s homegrown progress on climate action. Bryan Goldberg is the balanced leader we need in this seat representing Knoxville voters by standing against the extremist agenda in the state legislature in Nashville,” stated Dr. Stephen Smith, Executive Director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund.

Tallahassee, FL — The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund, which works to make clean energy solutions a top priority for our region’s elected leaders, announced today its endorsement for former commissioner Dot Inman-Johnson’s candidacy for Tallahassee City Commission.

This endorsement is based on her track record and leadership in addressing energy affordability, environmental justice, and promoting clean energy. Examples of her leadership in these areas include:

  • Playing a key role in her role as City Commissioner in defeating the proposal for the polluting Taylor Energy Center coal plant that Tallahassee would have been a part-owner of
  • Administering the Weatherization Assistance Program to help North Florida families with low income to make their home more energy efficient and lower the energy bills for 14 years as the Executive Director of Capital Area Community Action Agency
  • Her campaign pledges to support implementation of Tallahassee’s 2023 Clean Energy Plan and to “work with local Chambers of Commerce to incentivize and attract “Green“ businesses to Tallahassee.”
  • Serving as a board member of Tri-State Board Member, Legal Environmental Assistance Foundation

“Dot Inman-Johnson has the history, know-how, and perseverance to help propel Tallahassee forward into a key leadership position in the transition to clean energy. Tallahassee already has several key elements in place, setting it up for success, but we need the leadership that Dot has a track record of providing to get things really moving in the direction of affordable energy bills and less pollution,” stated Dr. Stephen Smith, Executive Director for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund.

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy Action Fund wishes Dot Inman-Johnson well in her campaign and thanks her for her consistent leadership in advancing energy equity and climate progress for the people of Tallahassee and North Florida.
